For many months now I have heard the repeated line of…
“We (preterists) have no fear of the future….”
“We have more joy living in realized Eschatology….”
“The Darkness of Futurism”
Let me point out several things that should be obvious.
When preterist use such language they become divisive, as if they have something better than futurists, but, if the “reality” that preterists create is true then every born-again believer is living in the same reality. Your Joy can be no different from ours since it does not depend on our feelings. You do not have a better reality since we are both living in the same reality. By the language you imply that you have a better understanding and that somehow transforms your lives and makes it better than a futurist as if we have no hope in our paradigm, yet in the dispensational system every Christian is taken out so what fear do they have? Then they claim this revealing comes from the Spirit of fulfilled eschatology and yet they alone are hearing the Spirit. Then, none of this was revealed to anyone until about 100 years ago.
Further the preterists removes themselves from the power of the spirit in its ability to set people free from power of darkness since there is no more darkness except what is in peoples own heads. People run around in spiritual bondage but there is no “demons” or “evil” Spirits, therefore preterist have no discernment and no authority to deal with what they deny in their theology. Now there are some who profess to having spiritual gifts but they simply have not understood the preterist paradigm, when fully realized (pun intended) removes the power Gifts of the Spirit from being a normal part of a Christians life. The theology contradicts the practice.
The Darkness of futurism is a belief in the persecution in some great tribulation which in fact Revelation describes,
7 Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation, 8 and all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain. 9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear:
10If anyone is to be taken captive,
to captivity he goes;
if anyone is to be slain with the sword,
with the sword must he be slain.
Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.
Even the book of Revelation begins by warnings of Judgments against the church (not Jerusalem) for different “sins”, and yet the events of AD 70 had no impact on gentile churches in Asia, talk about audience relevance, everything about the Olivet was for Jerusalem not Corinth, Thessalonica, or Ephesus from which John wrote.
When I see preterists suffer from sickness, disease, as do any other Christian, but somehow there living in a new Heaven and Earth, I have to ask, how much better life is for them over others because they realize Jesus came. If all the fulfillment of the promises are realized in heaven, how is that different from any futurists who looks to the hope of “being clothed in a spiritual body”? Since no one here on earth has gotten a “spiritual body”. That physical realm remains the same as it was in the days of the Apostles.
What gentile Christian cared if Jerusalem was burnt up? How would that affect them? Now the burning up of creation would be a concern.
Now here is the extreme danger of preterism: If you believe its all past and its not, and your dead wrong, (no pre trib rapture) WHEN the events begin to unfold the preterist will be in denial, the mark comes, but the preterist believe the mark of the beast is all past, and before you know it you’re caught up in another “lie” from the enemy but this time it costs you your soul. I have heard preterists say they will get chipped no problem, because it’s all past they have no fear. Now I’m not advocating the mark is the microchip, whatever form that it comes it will be deceptive. But those who are deceived will be further deceived because of course to them the bible does not speak about any event after AD 70.
In the worst-case scenario if I am wrong I lose nothing. But if your wrong you lose everything.
When you stand before God and have to give account of how you were deceived and refuse to hear the truth because you were so sure in your deception. How much of a fool you will feel because when you stand before God you will have nothing to show as the disciples you made in this life is in the same boat as you. Now you can say you never have to stand before him but..
2 Corinthians 5: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
But somehow the Preterists doesn’t have to, they can live like hell now because they will never have to face the Judge for their sins. Holiness doesn’t matter because they no longer have any sins, so when they commit;
“sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these.”
They have nothing to fear from God because it was automatically forgiven. So they can sin all they want to, even have a beer with Jesus, because there not going to be judged.
“I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” – Doesn’t apply to them.
It’s easy to Love those that are like you, but impossible nor is it required to show love to those who oppose you or your doctrine, in word and deed, Right?
There will be many who will say “Lord, Lord, did we not Prophecy in your name…(oh wait they don’t prophecy (because that ceased) or cast out demons, because demons don’t exist) and he will say, “– I never knew you… (oh wait this was all fulfilled so no has to be judged any more for what they did do.) Audience relevance… For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ… Wasn’t written to me, so I can throw that verse out of the Bible…
If a Preterist wanted to really learn how to be a preterist, they need to write a bible that removes every verse that doesn’t apply to them or their lives now… just to see what they end up with.
