Charles Meeks makes a stunning confession…

On a recent post Charles Meeks makes this stunning confession:

The sight of the soldiers and chariots in the clouds surrounding cities could be interpreted as the Second Coming. This satisfies the visibility requirement.”

A preterist finally admits to the idea that’s Christ coming is to be a visible event as requirement for his coming. Paul stated six times by using the word “Epiphaneia” which means, “to be made visible – manifest” In 2 Thessalonians 4 Paul says he will be “made visible” when he comes back after being absent. So we agree wholeheartedly that His visible display of glory and power is required element of his coming.

So our problem now is Charles is telling us Jesus is actually soldiers and chariots running around in the sky.

Now lets forget for a moment the logic that the Romans army was there to destroy Jerusalem as a judgment sent forth from Jesus, in his vindication, and that Revelation 19 says Jesus comes with his army to destroy the beast and his army, (which did not happen) so we have soldiers and chariots running around up in the sky and yet this is the second coming in which Jesus is supposed to slay the beast army and “all the birds were gorged with their flesh.”  Is actually what happened to Jerusalem in some kind of twist of fate. Iguess John screwed up in his prophecy.

In Acts the angel tells the disciples themselves, “This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

Zech 14:4 tells us, “ On that day his feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east,”

So This Jesus, can’t be soldiers and chariots running around in the sky.

Paul, In 1 Thess 4:16  “For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command,”

nowhere in scriptures where it says “the Lord himself” does it ever mean something else comes in his place but it is he himself who does it…

Luke 24:25 While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them.

Every time in scriptures when the verse says “himself”, it never means someone else or something else, it always means the very person. Jesus himself, or Lord Himself can never mean soldiers or chariots who fly around up in the sky, is Jesus himself.

Now preterists want to chide futurist because we don’t understand the word “soon”, but here we have every preterist denying the “Lord Himself”, refers to the person of Jesus.

I John 2:3 “we shall see HIM, as he is” – is he soldiers and chariots flying around in clouds?

So in all scriptural honesty if Paul says it’s Jesus himself and the Preterist says, Jesus is “soldiers and chariots” we know they are being dishonest with scriptures and are not doing due diligence in study.

The challenge then for the preterist is to accept it is Jesus himself who descends from heaven at His coming, not the coming of soldiers and Chariots.

I never heard a worse denial of scriptures intent and meaning.
