Notes on the Video
Paul wrote to the Colossians whom you’d say were foreigners… In his letter he tells them that they were guilty of TRESPASSING the commandment to be circumcised in the flesh of their foreskin. Now, you claim these are NOT scattered genitalized Israelites. So if that’s true, why would they be TRESPASSING the commandment to be circumcised as Paul says? Where do you see God commanding any foreign nations to circumcise? Wasn’t this a commandment given to the covenant people alone? Also, Paul tells them that Christ had “nailed the HANDWRITTEN REQUIREMENTS that were against them, to the cross”… Where are you seeing any handwritten requirements given to foreigners in the story? What “handwritten requirements” would these so called “true foreigners” be violating since God gave nobody any handwritten requirements but Israel?
13And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15He disarmed the rulers and authoritiesb and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.c
had “nailed the HANDWRITTEN REQUIREMENTS that were against them, to the cross”…
Now Jason comes to this verse and automatically assumes “HANDWRITTEN REQUIREMENTS” means the law of Mosses.
There is something we need to add to his understanding that helps clarify. Jason stated in another post,
Stephen is too stupid to realize what he is saying. Let’s see what he said above…He said this.. “all men are sinful and sin, ***whether they are under the law or not***, all men need to be saved.” Paul said this… “Sin is NOT IMPUTED where there is no law” “There is no transgression without law” “The law gives sin its strength” “Sin took opportunity by the law and brought death”
Yet Paul stated, in Romans 2:12 “For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.”
so clearly Paul is saying that people who do not have the law of Moses, NON- Israelites who were never given the law, are sinners, they “sinned” without the law. Jason cannot escape this truth.
So why do those who do not have the law perish? Because they sinned, even though they do not have the law of Mosses… 14For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them 16on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.
why would God judge them on that day if they were never given the law of Mosses?
so if we are going to be judged ..what did Christ do?
14by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
“the record of debt”, cheirographon: a (handwritten) document, legal note, bond, is the charges brought against a man, his list of sins, whether he is under the law or not, he is a sinner, and will be judged for his “sin”, for the wrong he has done. The record of his sins.
The “legal demand” or Decree, dogma: an opinion, (a public) decree, The legal demand then is that “sinners’ perish for their sin.
When Christ died on the cross, man list of sins was applied to the cross, Christ perished for the sins of the sinner. The list of debt owed for our sin were wiped clean by him who died for our sins, he “perished” for us, on our behalf.
He claims only people given the law of Moses can be sinners, that we have proven not true. Which also proves that the “world” he is talking about is not only the “Jews” but the whole world of people, Jews and gentiles (Hellenist / “other” Ethnos) . Yes Jesus was born under the Law and Paul said, “he was no longer under the law” so something changed, the mystery of the salvation to the gentiles was given to Peter as the commission to make disciples of all men of every nation was commanded by Jesus.
IN Romans 11 Paul states, “17But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing rootc of the olive tree, – the branches broken off were the Jews. The branches grafted in were “non-Jews” – Gentiles.
