Giving an orthodox apologetic answer for Preterism / Dispensationalism
It is out contention Preterist are unable to see and recognize their own inconsistencies. For example;
IF Preterism is correct in their understanding of Mathew 16.28 "Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” That this is about 70 AD and the return of Christ, it should be first noted Jesus said himself there would be disciples who lived to see and experience the return.
Statement of Faith from Preterist.org Ed Steven's....
Our Faith: We believe in only One True God, who has revealed Himself in Three Divine Persons (the Father, Son and Holy Spirit); and that the Bible, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments is His only Divinely inspired, inerrant, sufficient and absolutely authoritative revelation to mankind. We believe the purpose of the Bible was to unveil mankind's utter sinfulness and announce God's complete provision of forgiveness of those who accept it only through the finished work of His only begotten Divine and sinless Son Jesus Christ. We believe Jesus was virgin born, died for our sins, and was raised from the dead as the firstfruit of the rest of the dead who were raised at His second coming. ......WE BELIEVE SCRIPTURS TEACHES Christ would come again in that first century generation while some of His original disciples were still alive, ........to judge the living and the dead. And we believe in one universal body of believers (both visible and invisible), which is the Church. And we believe in the continuing observance of water baptism and the Lord's Supper.
"WE BELIEVE SCRIPTURS TEACHES Christ would come again in that first century generation while some of His original disciples were still alive,"
Yet Ed Stevens wrote a paper trying to explain why all disciples died before 70 AD!!
The word tells us God/Jesus is/are Omniscient…God knows all things.. (I John 3.20) there is nothing he does not know.
We also know that the “Lamb’s Book of Life” was written and filled with the names of every “believer” before the foundation of the world (Eph 1.4; Revelation 13.8)
This means the book is complete of every name and no name can be added to the list because that would imply God did not know about them. God in his sovereignty is Omniscient therefore knows every generation (Isa 41.4) of every person who will ever be born and live, the last name on the list is the “last Generation”. So if the book is complete with all the names of every saint, the elect, the chosen, then there is an end of the generations of man. By Default the book was written so therefore is a complete list, the list does end at some point. That would be the last generation. There will be an end generation.. (Rev 22.13)
The Great White Throne Judgment as Full Preterist believe, occurred in 70 AD. This judgment was every man born, and whose names were not found in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Revelation 20 calls this group “the rest of the dead”, they are all brought before the throne in absentia and are judged for what they will do. This includes every Generation pre and post 70 AD, there is no person who is born who has not all ready has been judged. (Full
Preterist stated position)
This stated position still implies the “list” is completed and no name can be added.
Yet Full Preterist argue that the “kingdom with continue to increase without end”. (Luke 1.33) and that it will continue on forever, “night and day” will never end, but still no name can be added to the list, or it is to accept God does not know all things, made a mistake and 2000 years later has to keep adding names to the book.
We then can demonstrate the preterists construct is wrong. There is a last Generation which also implies there will be a last day when the last person dies and the last person’s name that is in the Lambs book of life will live and die. These last days would also have to be the end of an age.
“11He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” Ecc 3.11
There is an end to all things on this earth. Some Full
Preterist assert the last generation was 70 AD, and have stated the list ended in 70 AD.
“You're going to have to prove that the book you're talking about still exists and that it will exist until your end of time belief.
… But the list was only for those who would comprise the kingdom.”
To say the book no longer exist means no one can be saved post Judgment.
If you believe 70 AD was the last generation of the last days then no person can be saved post 70 AD…all the names in the book have been completed in 70 AD, judgment takes place from the books as Daniel and scriptures state.
“15And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
TRUTH; All judgment is based on the Book of Life and who’s names are written in it or not written in it. No man is “saved” without His name written in the book. The text or even context in which the “book of Life” is mentions does not limit to a certain place in time. The Great White Throne being the final judgment of all mankind IS the last final judgment upon men and then that “end” comes. What follows is a new paradigm in the New Heavens and Earth.
Therefore the logical conclusion of the argument against the list including only those of the first century is no one is saved post 70 AD, there is no future judgment, and we cannot be judged we simply “cease to exist” after death because God had nothing for us, we are a mistake and there is nothing more for us. Our names are not in the book of life.
Error begets error. A Lie follows after a lie.
God is Omniscient, Knows all things, there is nothing he does not know.
The last Generation and the end could not be 70 AD as people are still being saved and God knew about us by having our name is in the book, we are not the last generation, as
Preterist contradict themselves by stating “we have all ready been judged”. If we have all ready been judged then our names are in the book of life and 70 AD was not the last generation nor was it the end of all things but an end will come with the last name written in the book.
No one is saved post 70 AD, if they’re names are not written in the “Book of Life” there is no future judgment, and we cannot be judged we simply “cease to exist” after death because God had nothing for us, we are a mistake and there is nothing else to life. Jesus did not die for us or know about us, so therefore we are born into sin by Adam and we have no hope. The Book by which we are judged ended with the last generation in 70 AD and God is not omniscient.
Everyone is saved post 70 AD and there is no need of any judgment or a book.
The Bible is not silent about our future there is an end yet to be achieved.
In Mathew 24.39 speaks of Christ "Parousia" the language of "the son of man coming on clouds" is what we need to take note of.
"So will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather....30Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. Mathew 24
In Rev 14.14 we see the exact same wording.
"Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.” 16So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was reaped.
Again in Rev 1.7 He is coming with the clouds.
"BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen.
From Revelation 1.7 we find the Old Testament parallel.
Zechariah 12 8On that day the LORD will protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the LORD, going before them. 9And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.
Zechariah speaking a prophecy of the Day of the Lords return we see something that was not fulfilled in 70 AD.
"8On that day the LORD will protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, 9And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem."
His Return could not have happened in 70 AD
